World Online Debating Championships Rego update

There are just over two weeks left to register for the World Online Debating Championship. So far, we’ve had interest from North and South America, Africa, Asia and good old Europe. Now we’re looking for interest from you.

If you want an international event we can obviously provide that. Though I imagine you’re looking for a little bit more – say an international event with world class judges, low cost entry and no need to haul yourself thousands of environmentally damaging miles? You guessed it, we’ve got all that too.

We can also offer the chance to call yourself a World Champion. Unlike the other world’s competition going on right now, ours will probably get you less interest from the opposite sex and considerably fewer fast cars, but will sound very, very, good to potential employers. “A world champion debater? Really? Do tell me more…”

Of course it’s not (only) about the winning, it’s about the taking part. If you get involved you will learn more about expressing yourself well in written English – our judges will make sure of that. You’ll also help Debatewise create a resource of debate material that other debaters, or just ordinary members of the public, can benefit from. To me, this is the greatest benefit of all.

Registration closes at the end of June and the competition proper will start in August. If more than one team wants to represent their country we’ll hold preliminary rounds in July. Entrance costs US$20 per person or $100 for a team of however many members you want (we reckon about six is best). Bursaries are available.

For more information please see www.debatewise.org/wodc or email wodc@debatewise.org and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.
