Dear all,
We are pleased to announce the following details for the 2009 Durham IV.
The competition takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November, with registration on Saturday from 11am until 1pm. We will be running 5 rounds of 7 minute speeches, breaking to Semi-Finals and a Grand Final in our debating chamber on Durham's World Heritage Site, between the Norman castle and cathedral.
A tournament cap of 72 teams is initially being set, with an institutional cap of 3. The n-1 requirement for judges applies to all UK institutions. Teams from outside the UK (inc ROI) may register at a rate of n-2; in other words, 2 teams and no judge, or 3 teams and 1 judge.
Registration costs £45 per team, and is payable by cheque addressed to "Durham Union Society". Teams may pay on arrival at registration, however, no teams will be allowed to compete in any rounds until full payment is received.
Crash comes in many varieties, and the best of it will be assigned to those who ask for it first. We're going to try very hard to make it as comfortable as possible. Promise.
Our social on Saturday night will feature pizza by the delivery car full, beer-a-plenty, and after it went down so well at the Durham Open, bins and bins of yakka. I am willing to make this for you, even though I got lemon juice in my eye last time. Some kind of exciting entertainment will also take place, but I haven't decided what this will be yet. Probably live music, or maybe even comedy... suggestions are welcome.
Reg. opens this Friday (12th September) at 12 noon (BST), and is done by emailing durhamdebate@gmail.com
See you all soon.
