Update from WUPID: Round 1

As I type this Round 1 debates of the 2007 CIMB WUPID are underway.

As with most tournaments we had a couple of "slight delays". Problems in Bangkok Airport and delays in the arrival of some Malaysian Teams meant that we decided to postpone the Debaters and adjudicators briefing from yesterday to today. We had 1.5 hours for "event briefings" this morning so we decided that this was a better use of time (and allowed us go shopping yesterday).

This morning we had the normal delays getting people up and to breakfast. We also had a problem with the tab laptop being older than the printer in the tab room so we couldn't get drivers for it. Runners were swiftly dispatched to purchase a new printer. Even with all this we are running around an hour late so that's not too bad.

There are 40 teams and around 40 judges.

The Motion for round 1 is: THW PURSUE A POLICY OF CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT WITH ROGUE STATES

I have taken photos which I intend to upload to the flikr account. There is wireless access in the hotel but with the effects of jet lag in full swing last night I couldn't face the prospect of uploading the photos when I got to bed at 3am after the championship Dinner, inputting the final data into the tab system and attending the end of one of the "room parties". Hopefully tonight I will get to upload the photos.

First tab sheet just arrived........
