The draw for the Final of the 2010 World Universities Debating Championships is:
OG Harvard A
OO London School of Economics
CG Oxford A
CO Sydney A
And the motion: THB that the media should show the full horror of war
Judges: Suthen Tate Thomas (MMU chair) Christopher Bishop (Victoria Wellington) Sharmila Parmanand - (Ateneo de Manila) Doug Cochran (Cambridge) Kirsty Russell (Independent) Jo Nairn (Hart House) Michael Baer (Stanford) Ross Reid McGuire (UCD Law) Logan Balavijendran (MMU)
Best of luck to all in the final.
I'd be happiest right now in Oxford's position.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Andy. It's a good motion, but better for the prop, all things being equal.
ReplyDeleteThat said, go LSE!
Michael Baer is from Stanford.
ReplyDeleteJLM is a war historian, have to rate Oxford A's chances.
ReplyDeleteI'd be quite happy to be in Harvard's position, I believe the last four or five worlds have been won from the front half. I'm betting on them to win.
ReplyDeleteNot really, 2008 was won by CG...
ReplyDeleteAh - well a good percentage of them have been. I'm sticking with Harvard.
ReplyDelete2007 won by CO... nice try though. In fact, last OG to win was 2005
ReplyDeleteNo news yet on who won?
ReplyDeleteThey've probably been delayed by a long equity speech, on how everyone should feel ashamed, and there will be no result until Woon apologises again.
ReplyDeleteYeah... From what I've heard, there was no clear winner.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the finals (ESL, EFL, Open) are being recorded? Can someone please tell me the names of the speakers? Oxford is Sheng-wu and JLM, I know Cormac is back from Harvard for his second final, but is Lewis his partner?, Who is Art's partner for LSE? And is Sydney A Chris Croke and Steven Hind?
ReplyDeleteCormac's partner is Adam Chilton.
ReplyDeleteMichael Baer is from Stanford
ReplyDeleteThere is a video available for the GF, plus 2 prelims so far... but you need to search google video to find them... "WUDC" by date.
ReplyDeleteArt's partner from LSE is Rushabh Ranavat
