Subject: [WORLDS-LIST:5] Flights for Worlds
Dear Worlds participants
I hope that you are all keeping well and that those of you on holiday are
having a great time. For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere it is the
start of winter, a not too pleasant happening. Just a quick message to tell
you that :
1) Please can you further any email addresses to me that we can put on this
list. It would be great if we can attract even more people. I've added Maroje
from Croatia amongst others, but we still have a long way to go. Because this
is the most effective way to communicate and share info, I would appreciate
it if you could let more people know about this so that we can add their
names to the mailing list.
2) Flight news : Firstly, we have appointed a new Logistics Directot (Wayne
Richmond) and he can be contacted at the worlds email address. We have aslo
secured flights for just under R7000 (you can work that out in your own
currency with the ver plunging rand) from Vienna, New York and London if you
are a group of at least ten people. If you are more the price will come down
substantially, and if you can leave by 16 December the rate will also come
down. I suggest that you find a group of ten people (from neighbouring
universities perhaps) and I'll send you more details within a day. You'll
work directly via fax with Gayle at Maties Travel, but I'll let you know the
exact procedure.
If there's anything else please let me know.
Best wishes and see you in DECEMBER!

Subject: [WORLDS-LIST:8] Deadline for deposits
Dear Prospective Worlds Participants
Due to an administrative error, that I apologise for, some of you received
the information that the deadline for the R200 deposit is 7 June 1996.
However, it is in fact 5 July. I hope that this lessens the pressure of
getting the cheques to us. Also, if you don't trust the mail (and it has
proved to be problematic!) then fax us a copy of the cheque (at 27 21 808
4987) before you send it.
There have been some enquiries whether you may pay
in another currency. This is problematic for us, to a certain extent, but if
you have a valid reason (such as Croatian Universities) then we can arrange
something.
Please let me know what info you would like to see us add to our website.
This need not be limited to debating or Stellenbosch, but can be anything of
South Africa that interests you. If you want to know about anything in
specific, such as courses at university etc, please let me know.
Best wishes and we look forward to welcoming you in Stellenbosch at the end
of the year.

Having read a number of messages on the Worlds discussion list over the past
few days, I feel it necessary to make the following points:
1) Those people that are concerned about the rules for future worlds should
know that the rules committee is working on a draft that was drawn up by Ray
D'Cruz (Australia). Once this is complete I will further copies of it to all
the names on the official Worlds list. Furthermore, if you have any input at
this time it would be appreciated, provided it is constructive and
beneficial to the Worlds at Stellenbosch and beyond 1997.
2) Airfares are a big expense (AS THEY HAVE BEEN AT PREVOIUS WORLDS) but we
are doing all we can to assist participants. I will keep you updated.
3) We will update our website as regularly as possible and you can contact me
at our email address at any time.
4) Any talk of boycotting Worlds is ridiculous. If you have problems about
the Stellenbosch worlds specifically address them to me as chair of that
competition. If you have any problems with the council, or Worlds in general,
address them to me as chair of that council, and I will take the necessary
steps to see that the issue is resolved.
5) We are not in need of a tab programme. We have received help from
Melbourne and have developed our own system.
6) We are working extremely hard on this side to make your stay in South
Africa fun, but also to provide a week of excellent and efficient debating.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, but please address them to me directly.
