A rehash of NTU 2004 Worlds Grand Finals' motion, "This House Would ban the abortion of foetuses on the grounds of permanent disability", with a minor tweak. Why, oh why? Lack of real issue, or lack of creativity?
Yes! What a motion! Back to basic rights analysis! A refreshing break form IR and economics motions. Abortion is one of those fundamental debates which is always great to watch at any level.
I think the use of such a basic motion we've all done before was great. The Worlds Finals IS the very top of the debating pyramid any of us can hope to aspire for. I think it gave a lot of us the chance to look at unique points of analysis and arguments that are fresh and very well-structured.

ReplyDeleteI feel the same, the final motions were truly uninspired. Who among us hasn't heard a abortion or football team quotas debate before?
ReplyDeleteIt's not like there aren't enough issues out there worthy of debate!

ReplyDeleteIt's actually an issue people care about - far too many motions are simply bonkers. Credit, as ever, to the organisers.

Is there a video available of the final debate on abortion? If so, can I watch it? Where is it?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks
