Victoria IV - Worlds lead-up tournament

The Victoria University of Wellington Debating Society is pleased to invite you to the New Zealand British Parliamentary Open Debating Champs (the "Victoria IV") from Friday 30 November to Sunday 2 December, 2007, at the Victoria University of Wellington downtown campus.

The tournament should be excellent preparation for the upcoming Worlds in Thailand. All debates will be Worlds-style. Knowledge of NZ issues is not necessary.

Why should you come?

Many, many reasons. Here are three particularly good ones:

a) Awesome judges, including:

- Chief Adjudicator: Ranald Clouston (Grand Finalist, Worlds 2007 for Cambridge University)
- Kylie Lane (DCA for Assumption Worlds 2008; Best Speaker and semi-finalist at Worlds 2005 for Monash University)
- Jesse Wilson (3 x break round debater at Worlds, including the semi-fiinals for Auckland University at Worlds 2005)
- Jonathan Orpin (Worlds semi-finalist for Auckland University at Worlds 2005 and quarter-finalist in 2004)

b) Lots of debating - 6 rounds, with a break to semis and Grand Final.

c) Awesome socials - opening night drinks, Championship dinner, and closing night party.
As we showed at Vic Australs 2006 we know how to turn on a good party in Wellington.

Timetable

Friday 30 November - opening night drinks from 7pm onwards
Saturday 1 December - Rounds 1 and 2, lunch, rounds 3 and 4, Championship dinner.
Sunday 2 December - Rounds 5 and 6, brunch, semis, Grand Final. Ends circa 6pm - followed by closing night party.

Registration details

$50 NZD (around 40 AUD) will get you lunch on Saturday, the Championship Dinner on the Saturday night, and brunch on Sunday.

Registration is open now. To register, email victoriaintervarsity@gmail.com with the name of you and your partner, and your email addresses. Registration forms will be emailed in reply.

Registration closes on November 23.

Accommodation

You have a variety of options. We can organise crash accommodation for you with Vic debaters in the city, or there is a good backpackers 2 mins walk from the Vic Law School (where the debating will be held). We are very happy to work with you to arrange accommodation there, or elsewhere.
