WUDC 2008 Team Cap Increase

Hi friends!
WUDC 2008 Adj Core has decided to increase the team cap to the following:

(1)Max Team Per Institutions: 5 teams
(2)Maximum Teams for Tournament:360 teams
(3)There is no limit on the number of adjudicators an institution sends. You can cross the N+2 limit we set for the registration phase. But we have capacity for 400 adjudicators for the tournament.

As of this morning the number of teams paid and registered is around 240 from 130 institutions. Adjudicators is around 240 also. I will be updating these numbers and give you exact figures every other day.

Registration system will be opening very shortly. We are giving the delegation a few days to prepare arrangements. We will open the system and start accepting payments. Registration is as always First Come First Serve basis. I am expecting the system should be updated and open by September 10. Moment theteam cap of 360 is reached the system will be shut down and we will no longeraccept payments. There will be a regular team paid update on the forums andegroups. Do email us for any inquiries and we will reply promptly. Those of you who have transfered funds and received no confirmation as of yet, please share with us all your information and please do let us know before anything which institution you are from.

Sincerely,
Tarique

Update:
To keep things under control and to properly secure your slots you must follow the guidelines below to secure your extra slots.

(A) You MUST register your extra slots first! You do not have to put the delegate details but I must know exactly, how many teams you will send and adjudicators. This information has to be on the online system.

(B) Each institution representative must email and inform me and Rish they have added the slots and give me details of your registration request. Do not worry, we will not more than one working day to respond to your request.

(C) I will then accept/reject your request, THEN ONLY PROCEED WITH PAYMENTS! IF YOU PAY BEFORE YOU REGISTER and without my official confirmation, your money will not be refunded. I am warning all of you now.

When you transfer the money, please make it way beyond doubt which institution you are from please. If someone besides the registered institution representative has happen to wire transfer the money, please include a "TRANSFER MESSEGE"indicating your institution. I have had a very bad time tracking down money. It is to your benefit to make things easier for us to confirm your payments so we can confirm your slots.

The system should be open again by Monday. Just log in and then register just as you did before. The number of teams option will increase to 5 and you can add your teams and delegate information. You will be able to add as many adjudicators as you wish. Your new invoice will be generated and you will see your balance. I repeat, do not transfer any payments if you have not received a confirmation from me or Rish. We have to keep a close tab on the number of participants. Things are at a very critical stage as of now and we wish to make sure every body gets a fair chance to register and those who paid on time and registered on time should be guaranteed a slot. Remember, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. I know who registered first because all of your registering details all have been time stamped. Modification to your details etc.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Old APDS motions from 70s and 80s

J.J. Gertler, Co-founder APDA, provided me with a list of motions debated in APDA during the late 1970s and early '80s.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final round resolution at Glasgow 1981 was:
Be it resolved that this House regrets living in the nuclear age.

Be it Resolved That:
The U.S. should pull out
Time is on our side
The spirit has died
The United Nations is organized hypocrisy
The invisible hand has disappeared
Man is corrupted by knowledge
We are turning Japanese
The moment a man is convinced he is interesting, he no longer is
Judge not, that ye not be judged
Even victors are by victory undone
This is hell
The information highway is littered with roadkill
This House would give the Devil the benefit of the law
We don't need artists
History is Frankenstein's bride
Life is a matter of choosing one's moments
This House would choose faith over science
The only art that is worthwhile is that which pulls down our pants and taunts us
Television is a vast wasteland
We are lost in the supermarket of ideas
Necessity is the mother of invention
Necessity is the father of invention
The lady doth protest too much
Progress depends on the unreasonable man
Science is the enemy of the people
The world is flat
There can be no E.R. without an A
Chicken Little was right
Mother knows best
Little things mean a lot
Waiting is the hardest part
A hungry man is not a free man
Art upsets, science reassures
If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him
If you have to ask, you'll never know
Armed neutrality is ineffective at best
Changes in society are outpacing our ability to adapt
There's never been a better time than now
It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken
Patriotism is the last resort of a scoundrel
All's quiet on the western front
It enhances the desire, but takes away from the performance
Brevity is the soul of wit
It is good to have a giant's strength, but tyrannous to use it as a giant
Nothing emboldens sin so much as mercy
Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows
Where there's a will, there's a way
Reality is only a word
Argument is the worst sort of conversation
Familiarity breeds contempt
Familiarity breeds attempt

Confirmed institutions FOR WUDC 2008

Dear All,
The institutions/ people have their slots reserved according to registered teams online can be found here. If you are not on this list and have paid. Please do email me directly and please send me enough details so I can confirm your payment . A lot of you have sent me money without sending me any information about which institution you are from. The partial payments has gotten very confusing also. All of you that are sending individually as partial payments indicate to me your institution. So please do make things easier for me so I can confirm your payments. There are a lot of people/institutions I yet have to confirm. The website will be updated fully in one weeks time regarding all payments. Please do be patient with me. Please email me or us at rego@assumptionworlds.com or tarique@assumptionworlds.com

The decision to increase the team cap should be announced within this week. Hopefully by 5th night. The sooner we can clear the current payments the sooner the adjudication core can come to a decision.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tarique

Oxford IV Rego Open

Dear Debaters

Sorry about the multiple emails and cross-posting - just a quick email to say that the final phase of registration for the 2007 PriceWaterhouseCoopers Oxford IV began earlier today as IONA (domestic) packages went online. Any reported technical errors have been fixed, but if you encounter any problems, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either Lewis or myself. Bear in mind, however, that the Convenors and CA are split between Palestine, Delhi and China until Thursday, we will try to respond as soon as we can!

Both International Packages and IONA packages are going very fast (three went as I wrote this email!) and if I were you, and wanted to attend the IV, I would register now if I hadn't. We're working hard to guarantee a great weekend for all. If you subscribe to the International Package, for £30 more we guarantee you an extra night of crash, a fabulous launch party with freebies, entry to the traditional Thursday night debate in the Union's historic debating chamber, a tour of historic Oxford, exemption from the n-1 rule - and more!

For those of you who have already registered, congratulations and welcome.

A Facebook group is online at http://oxford.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5019017964 Do join and give us your feedback and suggestions, so we can tailor the IV to suit you!Looking forward to seeing you all there
